SERBIAN BUSINESS REGISTERS AGENCY (SBRA) HOSTS A WORKSHOP ON PROCUREMENT POLICIES AND RULES IN PUBLIC SECTOR PROJECTS FINANCED BY THE EBRD

Belgrade, 8 December 2016 – A two-day workshop on procurement policies and rules in public sector projects financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is currently in progress at the Serbian Business Registers Agency (SBRA).

The workshop is facilitated by two EBRD procurement specialists from the UK, Veljko Sikirica and Jenny Scheffel, and attended not only by the SBRA staff, but also by staff members of 11 other institutions from Slovenia, Macedonia, Republika Srpska and Serbia, among which, the State Audit Institution, Tax Administration, City of Belgrade, Belgrade Stock Exchange, Law Faculty and NALED.

The workshop was organized in support of the implementation of a project for the development of a regional business registries IT portal for the exchange of business data from the Serbian Business Registers Agency (SBRA) and the Central Register of the Republic of Macedonia (CRRM), soon to be joined by the Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for Public Legal Records (AJPES) and the Financial Agency of the Republic of Croatia (FINA). The project is scheduled to be completed by 2018.

Considering that the funding for this project was provided by the EBRD, the aim of the workshop is to train public sector staff to implement public procurements in compliance with the rules of this financial institution, also to better grasp why these policies are important for the beneficiaries, contractors, suppliers and consultants, and to identify main procurement issues during project implementation in real life.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development places special emphasis on capacity building in its countries of operations, with the core objective of fostering efficient use of public funds, contributing to strengthening institutions, corporate governance and internal capacity building.
