The 2020 data for statistical and other purposes processed by the Serbian Business Registers Agency show that 106,111 businesses employed 1,217,954 employees, 3.7% more compared to 2019.

Large businesses (more than 250 employees) increased the number of their employees by 4.7% in 2020, given that 586 businesses employed 523,405 employees, accounting for 43% of the total number of employees in the economy.

Medium-sized businesses (51 to 250 employees) also increased the number of their employees last year (+2.7%), employing 277,026 employees in total.

A significant increase in the number of employees (+4.4%) is also observed in small businesses (11 to 50 employees) provided that 10,822 businesses employed 235,532 employees.

The number of businesses with no employees decreased in 2020 by 3.1%. However, the share of these businesses (31,465) accounted for 29.7% of the total number of businesses. The largest number of businesses with no employees operates in the Wholesale and Retail Trade Services Sector. When observed by their size, most of these businesses are micro-businesses (99.1%). Nevertheless, if observed by annual turnover and the value of total assets, some of the businesses with no employees fall into the categories of small, medium-sized and large businesses.
