As at 5 July 2021, 406,239 business entities are registered in the Business Entities Register, of which 121,838 are active companies and 284,401 are sole proprietors.

According to the Serbian Business Registers Agency data, the number of registered business entities has increased this year compared to 2020 (+12,517) and the same period of 2019 (+23,932).

In the first six months of this year, 4,952 companies and 16,348 sole proprietors were incorporated. The number of newly incorporated companies is higher than in the same period of 2020 and 2019, by 8.90% and 6.30%, respectively.

The number of sole proprietors incorporated in the first half of this year is 20.40% higher than in the same period last year, while it is 14.30% lower than in the first half of 2019.

1,597 companies and 11,251 sole proprietors were struck off the Business Entities Register in the first half of 2020.

Compared to the same period of 2019, the number of companies struck off this year is 12% lower compared to the same period last year and 16.60% lower than in the first half of 2019.

The number of sole proprietors struck off the Register in the first six months of 2020 is 12.30% higher than in the same period last year and 2.50% lower than in the first six months of 2019.

If the newly incorporated companies are observed by their core business activity, the findings show that the majority of these companies are registered for 'Non-specialized wholesale trade', 'Construction of residential and non-residential buildings', 'Freight transport by road', 'Computer programming, consultancy and related activities’, 'Management consultancy activities’, and 'Restaurants and mobile food service activities’.

Among the newly incorporated sole proprietors, the majority has registered the following core economic activities: 'Restaurants and mobile food service activities’, 'Management consultancy activities’, and 'Freight transport by road'.

Most of the companies struck off the Register during the observed period were registered for 'Non-specialized wholesale trade', while most of the struck-off sole proprietors registered the following core economic activities: 'Restaurants and mobile food service activities’, 'Computer programming activities', 'Beverage serving activities’, 'Hairdressing and other beauty treatment', 'Taxi operation', 'Business and other management consultancy activities’, and 'Retail sale in non-specialised stores with food, beverages or tobacco predominating’.
